Allamanda Quilters Special Notices
Minutes, August 10, 2010 Meeting
The meeting was called to order by the President, Paula Mooney, at 1:18 p.m.
Secretary’s Report – We dispensed with the reading of the minutes since they were previously distributed to the members via email. A printed copy of the minutes is available for review at each meeting if anyone is interested.
Treasurer’s Report – Janice Tingle read the treasurer’s report. The checking account balance on July 13th was $1,510.08. Receipts during the month totaled $96.50, and there were no expenses during the month. The ending balance on August 10th is $1,573.58.
Membership Committee – We currently have 80 members.
Program Committee – Nothing new to report. The Guild’s Program Committee is not meeting over the summer. The next meeting will be in September.
2011 Showcase of Quilts – (January 28-29, 2011) Please continue thinking of unique items that can be made and sold at the boutique to earn money for our chapter. There are guidelines that must be followed for the items we create for the boutique. Those guidelines are attached. Please review the guidelines to ensure your ideas are acceptable. For example, Paula’s husband was planning to make quilt ladders (used for displaying quilts) for the boutique, but the guidelines indicate that quilting supplies (such as rulers, cutting boards, racks, etc.) can only be in the boutique if they are used items.
Paula shared a “block carrier” project idea with the group. The group really liked the block carrier, and we agreed that we’d like to set aside a work day or two at future meetings to make these items. We could make one for ourselves and make one for the boutique so that the chapter can earn some money. It would only require 1 yard of fabric, 1 yard of flannel, a mailer tube, some scraps or fat quarters and fusible web for the appliqué. Paula will provide appliqué patterns, and the chapter will purchase the mailer tubes. You would need to provide the material and other fusible web. We’ll schedule a workshop some time during September or October. Watch your email for updates!
If you plan to show a quilt at the Showcase, please remember that your registration form must be completed and submitted by November 1st. Your quilt doesn’t need to be finished by that date, but you would need to submit the dimensions of your finished quilt along with a picture. Please make sure you select the appropriate category for your quilt. It will not be judged if you don’t select the right category. If you have any questions about selecting a category, please see Paula. You also must follow the directions exactly as stated on the form when it comes time to submit your quilt. You may want to copy the registration form before you submit it so that you have a copy of the directions available when it comes time to submit your quilt.
Old Business:
1. Quilt Retreat – February 15-17, 2011 – Registration forms are available at the welcome table at each meeting. Please see Jo Loder if you have questions or are interested in signing up!
2. We currently have 15 ladies who are planning to join the Shop Hop that is scheduled for August 24th. If you haven’t notified Cathy Barlow that you’re interested, and you would like to attend, please let her know ASAP! It promises to be a fun day for all!
3. Jump Start Quilt – This class has proven to be very popular, and everyone seems to be working hard on their blocks each month. It’s so much fun to see the different color combinations of the same patterns.
New Business:
There was no new business to report.
Announcements:
1. Jo-Ann’s has changed their policy regarding the 10% discount that guild members receive. You are no longer permitted to receive the discount by simply showing your guild membership card. You need to go to the Joanne’s web site (www.joann.com) and select VIP Discounts (under Customer Service) at the bottom of the page to enroll in their program.
2. BJ Herter shared pictures of the donation quilt that her Milford Valley Quilt Guild is raffling off in June 2011. It is a queen size Baltimore Album quilt that is all done by hand. BJ has a beautiful block in it, and the quilt looks absolutely amazing. She has raffle tickets available for $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. She’ll have the tickets with her at future meetings, so please see her if you are interested.
3. Whippoorwill Station Quilt Shop is having a great sale this Thursday through Saturday (August 12-15). Fabric is 40% off, and if you finish a bolt, you get 50% off! What a deal!
Several beautiful items were shared with the group during the show-and-tell time. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the creativity of our members!
The meeting was adjourned at 1:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Barlow
